Starting May 1st households will see their electricity prices go up in Thunder Bay and Kenora.
Synergy North says the Ontario Energy Board has approved the rate increase, which are tied to inflation and other factors that to promote efficiency.
In Thunder Bay, that means electricity prices for the average homeowner, who uses 750 kilowatts of power, will rise 3.57 percent, or about $4.54 cents a month.
In Kenora, the increase is slightly higher at 4.66 percent, or $5.87 cents a month.
Synergy North says for a small business which uses an average of 2,000 kilowatts, the increase is 3.28 percent or $10.79 a month, and in Kenora it rises to 3.54 percent or $11.59 a month.
Also starting May 1st, summertime rates will go into effect for all other pricing programs, that includes Time-of-Use (TOU), Tiered prices and Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) pricing.
