It’s that time of year when students start thinking about applying for scholarships and bursaries.
The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation says it has access to thousands of dollars for local students.
Executive Director Lynn McAughey is encouraging graduates to apply.
“We have almost $57,000 in bursaries and scholarships and we’re here to encourage people to apply for them,” says McAughey.
“The person who is going to post-secondary education or headed off to train for working, contact your local guidance counselors and look for some of these bursaries and scholarships that are available.”
She adds they have a separate stream for students from Wauzhushk Onigum.
“So, there is a bursary that was created in your community for members of your community. You can be entering the workforce, going into a program at a university, college or technical school. There are multiple $500 bursaries available. You just need to talk to your guidance counselor and apply for those.”
McAughey adds that there is a separate funding stream of $500 bursaries for students from the Rat Portage First Nation.
