Canada prepares to host G7 summit

Some of the world’s biggest political players are heading to Alberta next week.

The G7 summit is being held in Kananaskis from Sunday through Tuesday.

Leaders from Canada, the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the European Union will be there.

It will mark the first trip to Canada for U.S. President Donald Trump since his election win in November.

Some of the core priorities for Canada include strengthening peace and security, building energy security, fortifying critical mineral supply chains and developing artificial intelligence.

Prime Minister Mark Carney has also faced criticism for inviting the prime minister of India to attend the summit.

Former prime minister Justin Trudeau and the RCMP alleged that Indian government agents were involved in the 2023 murder of a Canadian Sikh separatist in British Columbia.

Canada has hosted the G7 summit seven times, the last time being in Quebec in 2018.
