Severe weather causes prolonged outage on Coney Island

Synergy North says it could be tomorrow afternoon before power is restored to all it’s customers on Coney Island.

Severe weather has left about 100 customers without electricity.

Synergy North says crews have been dispatched to the island but the remote location of some of the hydro poles and the impact of the storm have made restoration more complex.

It says the impact of the storm has knocked trees down, damaging hydro poles and brought down power lines.

The utility adds that transporting materials and equipment to the island takes additional time.

Restoration is expected by 4:00 Thursday afternoon.
