Severe thunderstorm watch for parts of NWO

More severe thunderstorms are possible across parts of northwestern Ontario on Sunday.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for several areas, including:

  • Thunder Bay
  • Atikokan – Shebandowan – Quetico Park
  • Beardmore – Jellicoe – Macdiarmid
  • Gull Bay – Black Sturgeon Lake
  • Ignace – English River
  • Kakabeka Falls – Whitefish Lake – Arrow Lake
  • Nipigon – Rossport
  • Pickle Lake – Cat Lake
  • Savant Lake – Sturgeon Lake
  • Seine River Village – Mine Centre
  • Upsala – Raith

Environment Canada said conditions are favourable for severe storms that may produce wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour, nickel to ping pong ball-sized hail and heavy rainfall.

The risk of severe thunderstorms is from Sunday afternoon into the evening.
