Ontario outranks nearly every other province when it comes to improving internal trade with the rest of Canada.
That is according to a new report card from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB).
Ontario ranks second among the 10 provinces with an overall score of 9.2 out of 10.
The report grades three areas: Canadian Free Trade Agreement exceptions, the existence of inter-jurisdictional barriers to internal trade and the implementation status of items from reconciliation agreements.
“No jurisdiction receives a perfect overall score of 10 indicating that work still remains to be done to reduce internal trade barriers,” said the report.
CFIB noted that we were the first jurisdiction to remove all of our CFTA exceptions.
It also references our province’s efforts to enhance labour mobility by removing barriers.
Nova Scotia ranks first overall, while Manitoba is in third place. Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec scored at the bottom among provinces.
