Smoke warnings could last into Saturday for some spots in Northern Ontario

Poor air quality could continue into Saturday for some parts of Northwestern Ontario, according to Environment Canada.

High levels of smoke pollution are impacting the entire region because of wildfires in the prairies.

Warnings are in place west of Terrace Bay and Fort Hope.

Three new fires have appeared in the Northwest area since Wednesday evening.

They are out of control and the largest is 3 hectares in size.

In total, 42 fires are burning in the region, with 9 out of control and 6 under control.
