Hospital ready to unveil diagnostic suite

Lake of the Woods District Hospital is ready to unveil its newest diagnostic tool.

The grand opening of the Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence, featuring the MRI, is taking place.

Hospital president and CEO Cheryl O’Flaherty says an MRI has become the new standard of care.

“This has become a very important diagnostic tool for our physicians,” explains O’Flaherty.

“Patients are being referred to Winnipeg or Thunder Bay and what this does is that it impacts patient care. So, this installation of equipment here at Lake of the Woods Hospital, will improve access to care.”

O’Flaherty adds the MRI is much needed in the community.

“The demand for these (MRI) tests is going to continue to grow over time and having this test available is going to be a base need.”

The MRI magnet arrived at the hospital last month.

The Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence will not only house the MRI, but a CAT scan and the new mammography unit.
