Long-term care services to expand to seniors still at home

Seniors and others on waitlists for a long-term care home will be able to access services from their own home.

The provincial government is rolling out its Community Access to Long-Term Care program at three homes in southern Ontario.

Clinical and personal care, nursing support, dementia resources and wound care are among the services to be made available, keeping residents in their own homes longer.

“By giving seniors access to more services while living safely at home, the Community Access to Long-Term Care program will improve seniors’ quality of life, support caregivers, reduce avoidable hospital visits and delay the need for live-in long-term care,” states Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care.

The Ministry intends to expand services to rural and northern Ontario communities beginning in 2026.

The program will also be open to those who are eligible for long-term care or soon to be eligible.

To assist the homes delivering services, the province is investing $15 million over two years.
