It will likely be another six years before the new All-Nations hospital is built.
That’s according to the president and CEO of Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
Cheryl O’Flaherty says the $50 million announced by the province will help them with the next phase of planning.
“We’ve been actually proceeding for the next phase of planning for the new hospital, which is the detailed planning,” O’Flaherty said after premier Doug Ford made the funding announcement in Kenora.
“We’re just getting our people put in place, building our project team, and working with consultants to start advancing the master site plan for this hospital.”
She adds this is not a quick project.
“It’ll take about somewhere between 2 to 3 years to come up with all the detailed design documents and get the package ready for tender for the contractor. So, there is a lot of planning that will be undertaken and it’s a lot of work with consultants, and architects and engineers at this time.”
Premier Doug Ford also announced $1.9 million for the planning and design of the new long term care home, which will be operated by Wiiwas Elder and Senior Care.
Ford suggests work to build the long-term care home could begin by next year.
