Rally for Children’s Mental Health this weekend

The Winnipeg Jets Alumni are back in town this weekend.

It all starts off with a gala banquet this evening at the Seven Generations Event Center and a hockey game against local police tomorrow night.

Barry Reynard from Triple Play says he has been working with Ray Neufeld, from the Jets Alumni to provide other actitivies tomorrow as well.

“On the ice activities, we’re bringing Baily Bram, a former Canadian Olympian women’s hockey player to work with our Jets alumni,” says Reynard.

“We’re calling it a jamboree. U9, U11, U13 activities. Ray (Neufeld) will also be in Keewatin working with our Little Braves team, from Wauzhushk Onigum.”

Reynard adds that the weekend will culminate on Monday, with children’s mental health training.

“In comes Project 11 to train 200 teachers on Monday. It will have long term impacts for 4,600 children in our school programs. The training will be good for 3 to 5 years, so it’s an exciting weekend.”

Project 11 was created in honour of former Winnipeg Jet Rick Rypien, who died by suicide and struggled with difficult mental health challenges.

The actual hockey game between the Jets Alumni and police officers will take place Saturday night starting at 6:30 at the Moncrief Construction Sports Center.

Additions to the line-ups include defenseman Dave Ellett for the Jets Alumni, and Mike Richards playing for the police.
