Local sports for Monday, October 27th

There’s a new top team in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs won both of its games south of the border, dropping the Ironwood Lumberjacks 11-0 Friday night and coming back with a 7-1-win Saturday.

The former top team in the league, the Sioux Lookout Bombers dropped both of its games to the Fort Frances Lakers on the weekend.

The Lakers won a couple of one goal games, defeating the Bombers 4-3 Saturday night and 2-1 on Friday.

The Kam River Fighting Walleye also won both of its games, getting by the Red Lake Miners 5-1 on Saturday and doubling Red Lake up 4-2 on Friday.

The Thunder Bay North Stars were idle this weekend.

In the Winnipeg High School Football League, the Fort Frances Muskies have advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 39-6 win over the St. John’s Tigers.

The Muskies led 19-0 at halftime.

The Muskies got touchdowns from Landon Medwechuck, Chase Whitecrow, Milo Stafford, and Liam Stafford on a pass from his brother Milo.

Trent Friesen booted a field goal and converted 4 of the 5 major scores.

The Muskies advance to the semifinal round of the Winnipeg High School Football League against the Dryden Eagles.

The game will be played on Thursday at 4:30 PM at the Fort Garry Lions Football Club field.

Dryden advanced to the semis with a 37-13 win over the Beaver Brae Broncos.
