Strong wind warnings issued for parts of northwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for strong winds in parts of northwestern Ontario.

The alerts cover Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, Armstrong, Gull Bay, Upsala, Beardmore, Cloud Bay and Nipigon.

The weather agency said westerly and southwesterly winds could gust between 70 and 80 kilometres an hour Sunday afternoon and evening.

The winds are expected to gradually diminish later in the evening and into the overnight hours, according to Environment Canada.

The agency cautioned that gusts may toss loose objects, break tree branches and cause power outages.
