TryLight Theatre Co.’s next production is coming to Kenora this month

TryLight Theatre Co.’s next production, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, is coming to Kenora this month.

This production, adapted by Dwayne Hartford from the novel by Kate DiCamillo, follows Edward, a vain porcelain rabbit who discovers the meaning of love through a series of difficult challenges. During his journey, he’s accidentally tossed overboard during an ocean voyage, rescued by a fisherman, and passed from one person to another across various landscapes. Through encounters with a hobo, a sick girl, and a doll mender, Edward transforms from being self-centered to someone who understands love, loss and kindness.

The show dates run from Nov. 22 to 28 at various times:

  • Saturday, Nov 22: 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (Pay As You Can)
  • Sunday, Nov 23: 3:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov 25: 7:30 p.m. (Pay As You Can)
  • Wednesday, Nov 26: 7:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov 27: 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov 28: 7:30 p.m.

The cast includes Kerry Dell Robertson, Vince Schatkowsky, Sara Van Walleghem, Adam Ward, and River “the Dog” and Lori Nelson is the production manager.

Riley Sleeman, the director, has previous experience stage managing 15 different shows. She never had the desire to direct, but this story in particular inspired her to take on the challenge for the first time.

“I read the play and was very moved by the story and felt like I could really see it on stage,” says Sleeman.

If you aren’t familiar with the TryLight Theatre Co., they have been operating in Kenora for over 35 years.

“I think that’s the best thing about TryLight is that it belongs to the community,” says Sleeman.

“It’s volunteer run, no one’s getting paid, we’re all just doing it because we love it, from the actors to all of the crew.”

Tickets go on sale Nov. 13 at www.trylight.ca or the Theatre Box Office, located at 510 Second St. S, Nov. 13, 18, 20, 25, 27 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
