Ice fisherman rescued on US side of Lake of the Woods

A warning about venturing out on early season ice.

An ice fisherman was successfully rescued on the south end of Lake of the Woods after becoming stranded.

The Lake of the Woods Sherrif’s Office was notified about the incident Thursday afternoon around 1pm.

The angler from Winstad, Minnesota reported that he was surrounded by about 400 feet of open water and standing on thin ice.

Emergency responders from the Sheriff’s office and the Baudette Fire/Rescue squad were dispatched to the Graceton Beach Access along with an airboat.

Despite hazardous conditions, he was successfully rescued without any injuries.
