Poirier uncertain about second term as mayor

The mayor of Kenora admits he hasn’t made a decision of whether or not he’s going to run again.

Andrew Poirier says he’ll definitely make a decision before the May 1st start of the nomination period for municipal elections.

“I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I’m thinking about it now,” Poirier says in a year-end interview with Acadian Broadcasting.

“Whereas, three months ago I wasn’t because I was engaged in thinking about other things that we were confronting at the time.”

Poirier adds that he wants to consult with his family and others before making a final decision.

“If I’m going to, I will announce later in 2026 or when nominations open. I know I’ll have a decision made prior to that.”

This is Poirier’s first term as mayor, and many city councillors say they won’t be running again in 2026.

Municipal elections will take place in October.
