Get paid to play in the snow!

Living in Kenora, you’ve probably spent a good chunk of your life outside moving snow around. You’re basically a professional by now after all of the hours you’ve put in shoveling, scraping, and chiseling away at the snowbanks piled up in front of your driveway. Why not put that expertise to good use?!

The Snow Sculpture Competition held every winter by Tourism Kenora leading up to the Kenora Winter Carnival is back for 2026. It’s your chance to turn all of that back-breaking labour you’ve put in into something fun that you can enjoy doing with your family or your pals.

This year’s theme is “I am Canadian”; a celebration of what it means to live life in the North. What does it mean to you? Is it late nights you spent on the outdoor rink with your childhood friends? Is it fishing with your family? Maybe it’s the beautiful wildlife and scenery we are so lucky to be surrounded by in Northwestern Ontario, like those gnarly jack pine you pass in the boat every summer, or the deer that casually stroll through your back yard. Whatever it is, if it says “Canada” to you, sculpt it into a block of snow on the Greenbelt.

You don’t have to do it alone! You can rally three of your most creative, or most reliable, family members or friends to form a team of four. Get out of the house, grab a good ol’ double double, and spend some quality time together while you create a work of art for the whole City of Kenora to enjoy! Every team that participates will receive a $200 honorarium, which could go a long way to paying for gas so you can get the kids to their next hockey tournament, or make a decent dent in your next grocery bill. If your crew has the magic touch and takes home the prize for “Best Overall” you’ll pocket an additional $500!

Carving happens from February 1st to the 22nd.
