January a “normal” cold month

The month of January may have seemed very cold, but it was actually pretty average.

Even though there was a cold snap in the middle of the month, the daily mean temperature was about a half a degree abover normal.

It was -16.8, compared to -17.3, which is the average.

The coldest day last month was January 23rd, when the Kenora Airport registered a temperature of -35.2.

That’s still not a cold as the coldest day in January, which was way back in 1943, when the thermometer hit -43.9.

In terms of snow, the Kenora area received 23.2 centimeters, which is a little less than usual.

The Kenora area typically gets in the range of 28 centimeters in January.
