Special Olympics ready to roll in Thunder Bay

Pins up, Thunder Bay!

Special Olympics Ontario’s 5-Pin Bowling Provincial Qualifier rolls into Mario’s Bowl on March 27 and 28, giving North Western Ontario athletes an important stop on the road through the Special Olympics games pathway.

It’s a pretty fitting venue too: Mario’s Bowl bills itself as Northwestern Ontario’s largest bowling facility, with 12 five-pin lanes ready for strikes, spares, and a whole lot of high-fives.

And there’s already bowling buzz in the region. North West Ontario sent seven 10-pin bowlers to the 2024 Waterloo Region Provincial Spring Games.

And to give you a better feel for what this weekend means, I caught up with the Kenora Special Olympic Coordinators Vicki Hawkins and Gary Socholotuk. You can hear that conversation below.
