Winds, Wows & Hows?

Looking for a good excuse to get out between April 9 and 15? Kenora’s calendar is delivering in three completely different events, a concert that turns one stage into a whole woodwind playground, an ice show built around big Canadian music, and a tiny-art gallery night where “small” is the entire point.

Quartet of Quartets is a great pick for anyone who likes live music with a bit of surprise. The whole idea is that four musicians can make a whole lot of sound when they rotate through an impressive lineup of woodwinds, moving between classical pieces, pop, jazz, and modern selections as the night goes on. It’s the kind of concert where you can show up just expecting “a nice evening out” and leave having learned how many different voices a flute, clarinet, and saxophone family can have when the players are this versatile. Thursday, April 9, 7PM to 9:30PM at the Knox United Church.

Kenora Skating Academy Present “Jumping to the Junos” Ice Show feels tailor-made for a Friday night when you want something upbeat. The theme nods to the Junos, so expect music-forward routines, lots of fun costume-and-spotlight moments, and that extra lift you get from watching skaters hit their marks in front of a hometown crowd. It’s also an easy one for families, since kids under five get in free. Friday, April 10, 6:30PM to 8:30PM at the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre.

Tiny Art Show at the Kenora Public Library is proof that a 4”x4” canvas can still steal your attention. The Tiny Art Gallery event doubles as a chance to wander, admire dozens of mini-masterpieces, and get in on the silent auction that helps support future library programming. Even if you don’t bid, it’s a fun pop-in because the variety is the whole point. A lot of different styles, lot of different creators, and plenty of “how did they do that on something so small?” moments. Tuesday, April 14, 3:30PM to 6:30PM, Kenora Public Library, with artwork on display April 14 to April 28.
