Update: Highway 17 closure expected to continue

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning the public that a closure of Highway 17 from Ignace to Shabaqua may continue for “a lengthy period of time,” as “the clean-up required is extensive.”

The closure began around 4 a.m. Eastern time on Thursday, after a serious collision that involved two transport trucks.

There is still no word on possible injuries from those involved in the crash.

Police say drivers should avoid the area.

The status of the closure can be monitored via Ontario 511.
