Shoal Lake #40 working on Winnipeg housing project

The Shoal Lake #40 First Nation is taking on a housing project.

Not in the community, but in Winnipeg.

The project involves the construction of 150 affordable housing units on Portage Avenue.

The band is working with three levels of government on the $51 million project.

“I’m proud of the work Shoal Lake 40 First Nation is doing for their people,” says Grand Chief of Treaty #3 Francis Kavanaugh.

“This housing development will support families and future generations. I acknowledge Chief and Council for their leadership in bringing this forward.”

The federal government is providing the lion’s share of the funding of $43 million.

The province and the City of Winnipeg are also contributing costs.
