Habitat for Humanity is proposing to build a house in the City of Dryden.
The Thunder Bay chapter says it’s looking at a couple of potential sites on Mary Avenue.
Tamara Sheedy is vice-president of Habitat Thunder Bay and says they are looking to get people in Dryden involved in the project.
“We’re asking the community to donate back with volunteer hours, donations in kind, gifts in kind,” Sheedy explained to city council Monday night.
“Their local trades get to participate in the builds and we would hope the community would be able to help with some fundraising. To be able to put up a build like this…generally builds are quite expensive.”
Sheedy says they have builds from Kenora to Marathon, and it just make sense to add Dryden to the mix.
“Having affiliate hubs in places like Dryden, would certainly be beneficial for us…beneficial for your community as well because it would incentivize housing and decrease the need for low-income housing.”
Sheedy says right now they are just looking to find out if there is interest in a build in Dryden, because it would take a lot of volunteer hours and fundraising to make it happen.
