3 new forest fires extinguished

The first two forest fires of the season have been extinguished in the Kenora District.

One was a small 0.1 hectare blaze on the Wabaseemoong First Nation on Saturday.

Fire ranger crews working on a nearby prescribed burn responded immediately and put it out.

The other was about 5 kilometers southwest of Keewatin between McKenzie Portage Road and Hendrick Lake on Sunday.

It was declared out Monday afternoon.

The other fire was Nipipon 1, near Longlac.

It was declared out on Saturday at 0.5 hectares in size.
