Kenora city council says it wants to look at plans again to fix up the Coker Road.
A section of the road is closed again over concerns high water could damage the road bed further.
Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Greg Breen says they did present a couple of options a few years ago.
“Both the realignment and the soil mixing options were approaching $4 million in estimated costs in 2023,” Breen reported to council at its Committee of the Whole meeting this week.
“Presumably $6 million to $7 million today.”
For his part, councillor Bob Bernie says he already made his decision three years ago and doesn’t want to do anything but monitor the road.
“I’m not willing to change my mind now. There’s no new evidence here that’s come forward. Nothing has changed.”
Breen points out that that section of Coker Road has been closed for at least a month each year since 2022.
Coker Road is expected to be completely open in the next couple of weeks, as long as the water on Black Sturgeon Lake continues to go down.
A majority of council indicated they wanted to see some options for the next budget deliberations.
