Results from Dryden second business survey released

The business climate in Dryden is mostly good, but there are some challenges.

That’s according to an annual business survey conducted by the city’s Economic Development department.

Tyler Peacock is the city’s Economic Development Officer and says the good news is local businesses are planning to add staff.

“Positively, business continue to invest in our community,” Peacock told council at its open meeting this week.

“Businesses remain resilient. They continue to want to hire. There’s a very good indication businesses are interested in hiring and continue to hire more staff.”

Peacock says while businesses remain resilient, they do see challenges ahead.

“Businesses are having difficulty finding employees and they recognize that immigration and immigration programs are important to our community. And businesses are concerned for long term sustainability.”

The survey shows about 59 percent of businesses are planning to hire, but 65 percent suggest they have hiring challenges.

That’s up almost 20 percent from last year in both categories.

Also on the downside, Peacock says on-line commerce is definitely affecting them.
