Racing is back, Kenora! You don’t realize how much you miss it until you’re standing there Sunday with the smell of exhaust and dust in the air.
Lake of the Woods Speedway kicked off its ninth season over the weekend, and the place was packed. Families, kids, people who clearly know every driver by heart and people like me who just show up because there’s something about racing that’s hard to explain and easy to love.
There were feature wins, a driver hit 20 career wins at the track, and somebody claimed their first-ever season opener victory. A good night all around!
Mostly I just felt lucky to be out there. It’s one of those events that feels genuinely local. It’s loud, relaxed, and full of people happy to be in the same place at the same time.
Next race is June 21. Hot laps at 4, racing at 4:30. Don’t miss it!
