Ford upset with firefighting comments from First Nation chiefs

Premier Doug Ford is taking exception to comments that the Province of Ontario isn’t doing enough in the face of wild fires.

Speaking in Prince Edward Island ahead of the premier’s meeting, Ford says they have provided help to evacuees when it’s needed and any criticism is unwarranted.

“We have constant communication…we’re going out to the First Nations,”

“We’ve moved close to 2,000 (residents from) First Nation communities on the plane. We’ve provided them hotels…we’ve provided them with food…any other expenses.”

Ford points out that they are going above and beyond the call of duty.

“On reserve the feds have the responsibility to take care of First Nations. But we’re taking care of them. We’re doing everything we possibly can. We have 155 fire crews out there. Close to 800 or 900 wildland firefighters.”

Ford suggests the fire fighting effort is well organized with help from the Red Cross, Ontario Corps and other agencies helping feed and house evacuees.
