Kenora Pickleball Club Ladders Play – July 29-30

By Jim Mowrey, Jun Laffin and James Tkachyk

Wednesday Morning Ladders: It was just bad timing and maybe a lack of communication with the city crews but it is what it is. Courts 1 to 4 were taken out of service by city crews tearing down the fencing on the lake side so we had to stop play on four courts.. The city employees were great and the pickleball players understood it had to be done. Hopefully the temporary fencing will be put up quickly so we can get back playing with all 8 courts.

Group 1 got three games in, Group 2 got four games in. Not enough for me to count so I deleted them from the list. I will start next week with the same players, minus one so that Claudine can move up from Group 3. She gave me “the look” so I better take heed !!!!

In Group 3, the games were close. Claudine Cordeiro was on top of her game going undefeated. After that there was only six game points difference from second to eighth place. That is the closest scoring I have seen in a long while…. good games.

In Group 4, Brenda Schussler edged out Duncan Ross who was one point ahead of Polly Craik

Claudine Cordeiro is our A & W Player of the Day going undefeated in Group three. Nice job Claudine… Wednesday Evening Ladders: Shoutout to the 21 of us who braved the heat and knocked out 6 great pickleball games! 🥵

The Boston Pizza Player of the Day is Jan Eshmade with a beautiful ATP (around the post) to win the game on court 2 and move to court 1!

The honorable mention goes to Vicki Blackwood! She started 16th and finished by winning on the top courts! Great job, ladies!

Jun Laffin and Vicki Blackwood defeated Gerard Defresne and Derek Hollbrow in the final game on Court 1.

Thursday Morning Ladders: On a compressed court facility (only 4 of 8 courts available) 26 members played under hot humid conditions. We had a couple of guests this morning with Kelly Taylor and Kathy Glenesk joining us this week.  In Group 1 it was Lilian Lontra and Kelly Taylor on top with identical scores.  Group 2 had Darryl Desrosiers over Gil DesRochesGroup 3 had Paulette Gratton finishing 1st and Group 4, Sharon Wazney had herself a good pickleball day.

Polly Craik played well and moved up the ladder as did Marla Klassen and Glen Gratton.  The 901 West Side prize winner is Sharon Wazney for winning Group 4 and moving up 6 spots.
