Press Play: ‘The Last House’ takes top spot since its release

Netflix’s recent release, The Last House, has reached the No. 1 spot on Canada’s Top 10 movies list.

In this sci-fi thriller, a family of four gets stuck in their home and must fight to survive while a sinister force traps them inside. Sounds like a nightmare, right?

Directed by Louis Leterrier, the film stars Greta Lee (Past Lives, Russian Doll) and Wagner Moura (Elite Squad, The Secret Agent) as parents Ann and Jason.

Since the house is the star of the show, production designer Kevin Jenkins put extra care into designing a set that would “evolve and age alongside the human characters,” according to Netflix Tudum.

Imagine driving by a real person living inside a house built into a billboard. Actor Nathan Shoop spent a few days in a living space placed 30 feet above Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles to promote the film.

Despite sitting in the top spot, the film has a surprisingly low Rotten Tomatoes score. The audience score sits at 28 per cent, while the critics score reaches a low 23 per cent. But you can’t judge a movie solely based on its rating… every movie deserves a chance. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up loving it!

So don’t get too comfortable watching this movie; it might make you want to jump out of your seat.
