Kenora Pickleball Club Ladders Play August 19th and 20th

By Jim Mowrey, Jun Laffin and James Tkachyk

Wednesday Morning Ladders: It was a little chilly at first this morning but it turned out to be one of our better mornings. No excuses for how the wind will ruin my game…

I have been asked more than once ” how much longer are we going to keep playing?” As long as the weather is nice and players want to keep coming to play, I will run Ladders. All it usually takes is one very bad Wednesday morning and outside ladders for the year will be over.

Now for the games with 32 players ready to “Rock and Roll”

In Group 1, Murray Bamforth only lost one game 11-3 and Julie Pellerin won only 4 games but still beat Murray by one point. I was three points behind Julie. See Murray, I told you I would bring you down to my level !!

In Group 2, Charmaine Fregeau came out strong after holidaying on the East Coast, winning  Group 2. Charmaine only lost one game 11-9. Charmaine later told me that she didn’t think that she played extra better than normal but just keeping the ball in play goes a long way to winning games. Dave Harrison lost 3 games but was only 3 points behind Charmaine. Darrell Durling was 1 point behind Dave… close !!

In Group 3, Robin Rademaker went undefeated… 7 games to 11, 77 points… nice gong Robin. Robin is going to miss the next two Wednesdays, then she will have to prove herself in Group 2. Most of the games in Group 3 were pretty close… nice to see.

In Group 4, Brenda Schussler won the Group by only losing 1 game, 11-2. Brenda beat Annie Mowrey by 1 point, with Marianne Hastman 1 point behind Annie… close race to the winners “kitchen”

Robin Rademaker is our Boston Pizza ” Player of the Day”. I will give her a voucher when she gets back.

Wednesday Evening Ladders:  Hi all, it was great night for pickleball, no wind, no direct sun, and warm.

Wendy Tseng and Rob Scatliff were the winners on the top court, defeating Derek Holbrow and Aime Bazin in the final game.

The  “901 Westside Restaurant” Player of the Day was Cade Peters — for pulling off a successful tweener during a game for Shot of the Night!  (errant ball from another court apparently halted the rally at the same time but still worth the recognition!)

Thank you!

Thursday Morning Ladders: Play was cancelled this morning due to a wee bit of rain. Thursday morning ladders has been pretty fortunate with not getting too many mornings cancelled. The players will be ready to go at it next week… and we need the rain as does most of Canada….
