Cost of Keewatin Channel Bridge painting explained

The City of Kenora is explaining the cost of painting the Keewatin Channel Bridge.

It’s coming in at $4.35 million.

Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Greg Breen says it’s a very involved process including sandblasting and covering the underside of the bridge so nothing can enter the lake.

Councillor Graham Chaze also pointed out the expense is not being borne by the municipality, but the federal government, through grants from the gas tax.

The project is the most expensive in the city’s capital plan.
