City agrees to zone mill property for a training school

A new trades school is being proposed for Kenora.

A zoning application was approved last week for two pieces of property on the former Abitibi Mill site.

Though the institution hasn’t been identified, plans are in the works for a trades school for heavy equipment operation, construction skills, and business and office management.

The planning report says “There will be no actual operation of heavy equipment on site. The training centre will host two classrooms and three practical training heavy equipment bays, as well as a heavy equipment shop, a storage room, and office space for staff.”

The land is located on the southeast corner of the mill property.
