World Pond Hockey Championship cancelled

The World Pond Hockey Championship has been put on ice due to a lack of ice.

Officials announced Thursday that they had been forced to cancel the annual event in Plaster Rock, N.B.

“The unseasonably warm weather we have experienced up to this point has resulted in a less than adequate amount of ice on Roulston Lake to administer the event safely and effectively,” said a statement on the event’s website.

More than 100 teams had signed up to take part in the mid-February tournament.

Participants were coming from as far away as the United States, Czechia, and Slovakia.
