Hildegard Sveinsson

Hildegard (Hilda) Clara Zimmerman Sveinsson
May 25, 1935-February 9, 2024

My Mom was born in Whitemouth, Manitoba to Adolf and Dorthea Zimmerman on the family farm where she developed her love of gardening, berry picking, looking for mushrooms and the list goes on. Mom was the baby of the family and the last of her siblings to pass. A very proud German and that she came from a farming family. She was actually born on May 28, 1935 and never got around to having her birth certificate corrected. Mom was proud of the fact that her niece, Kim was born on her birthday; every birthday the comment was “its Kim’s and my birthday”, it was not just her birthday alone.

She was predeceased by her husband Allan, infant son Grant, her siblings: Elizabeth Essenchuk (John), Margaret Reid (Al), Helen Cadieux (Lawrence), Adolf Zimmerman, Rudolph Zimmerman, Carl Zimmerman, August Zimmerman (Inga), Philip Zimmerman (Carol), Dorothy Coulter (Don), Eva Olson (Doug), Harvey Zimmerman (Ellie), Evelyn Herron (Len).

Surviving are daughter Lei and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Olive Zimmerman, Lois Mensch, Alda Parmeter, Lillian Marchant, Olivemae Sveinsson, Arlie Graham, David Sveinsson (Jan) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom had a variety of jobs over the years. She was a voracious and eclectic reader. A favourite pastime was knitting and crocheting. Mom was a member of the Juanita/Woodena Rebekah Lodge (Keewatin and then Kenora) and C.P.&T; was a member until the chapters closed in Kenora. She was stubborn, strong, opinionated and like all her siblings had the Zimmerman look if you disagreed with her (them).

Tannis, Barb, Honor, Gary, Libby and Uncle Dave: I can’t express enough appreciation for you! Thank you does not seem to cover it. Tannis the hug you gave me was the best thing I ever could have received at that moment!

Aunty Lois, Mom loved every visit that we were able to have with you, she was sad to leave but always looked forward to the next visit or phone with you.

To my work family: JoJo, Tanice, Sandi, Vanessa, Cheryl and Erika: thank you for all your support, understanding, love and strength you have given me over the years! Doesn’t seem like enough to say to express what I feel for you all!

For everyone who has texted and called, THANK YOU! Means more than I can tell you.

Thank you to the ER and 3rd Floor staff for everything you did for my Mom.

Cory, thank you for making the arrangements of Mom’s cremation easy, as I thought I would not be able to get through it.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no service as per my Mom’s wishes. Interment will be later at the lake of the Woods Cemetery. Donation in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.

“You are gone, but thank you for all the soft, sweet things you left behind. In my home, in my head, and in my heart”
Nikita Gill

“Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know that they are happy.”

“To Those Whom I Love & Those Who Love Me
When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.
I gave you my love, and you can only guess
How much you’ve given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it is time I travelled on alone.
So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear,
All my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you come this way alone,
I’ll greet you with a smile and a ‘Welcome Home’.”
