Area lake levels continue downward trend

A slight dip in the water levels of lakes within the Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake basin.

It is still within the normal range for this time of year.

However, the Lake of the Woods Control Board says the level has dropped 2 cm in the past week.

Another decline of 1 to 2 cm is expected over the seven days because of limited snowfall this winter.

As a result, outflows from the lake remain stable as they have been since the end of January.

Lac Seul is also holding within its normal range for this time of year.

The lake has declined 8 cm in the past seven days, with another drop of 4 to 5 cm expected over the next week.

Rainy and Namakan Lakes have also seen declines of 2 cm over the past week.

The International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board’s Water Levels Committee will host a virtual meeting on Thursday to discuss water levels on Rainy and Namakan.
