The City of Kenora is hoping to extend sewer and water services all the way to the end of Railway Street.
The city is working on an application for almost $3 million through the province’s Building Homes Faster fund.
Director of Economic Development and Tourism Stace Gander says this would be phase four of the Railway Street project.
“To essentially extend sewer and water down further Railway Street, because right now it stops around that corner there (just east of Pro-Auto-Glass),” Gander told council recently.
“We have a number of lots that are zoned R-2 and there is one that is zoned R-3.”
Gander says this is just one area of the city that doesn’t have any sewer and water infrastructure.
“It promotes more density on Railway Street if we extend water, then there is more likelihood to develop and therefore generate increased taxes down Railway Street.”
The city would be contributing over $900,000 towards the project, if it gets approved for funding.
The application is being made under the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund.
