Doctor shortage acute in the region

It could be a tough summer for staffing hospitals across the region.

The Meno-Ya-Win Health Center in Sioux Lookout says they are in a crisis situation because they can’t fill 63 percent of their doctors shifts in May.

A new physician recruitment package is being worked on, but the Ministry of Health still hasn’t approved it.

There are suggestions it could be the fall or even next spring before hospitals can recruit new doctors based on the new funding formula.
