Suspected drowning in Whiteshell Provincial Park

A tragic end to a canoe trip in Whiteshell Provincial Park in Manitoba.

The RCMP say a 61 old man from Winnipeg is dead and is believed to have drowned.

His body was found in Meditation Lake Sunday evening around 8:00.

Police say initially a passerby found an injured woman on the shore of the lake.

She indicated her husband was missing.

They had capsized their canoe in high winds, but she managed to get to shore.

The RCMP located the missing man a short time later.

Police say both people were wearing lifejackets at the time.

The 58 year old woman remains in hospital.
