Section of Coker Road closes again

For the second time in two years a section of Coker Road is being closed due to flooding.

The area from Kelly Road to the east side of Rice Bay is being closed today.

This is due to the rising water levels of Black Sturgeon Lake.

Following the closure, the Rice Bay water level will be monitored.

The city says it will be inspecting the road before deciding to re-open it.

That section of road was closed almost two years ago due to high water, and only opened last August after extensive grading and ditching work had done in that area.

The city has proposed a new road around the flooded area, but construction, which could run into several million dollars, was not contained in the 2024 capital budget.
