Reports suggest large crack in hull of Michipicoten

We are learning more about what may have caused a large freighter to take on water in Lake Superior.

Multiple reports citing the U.S. Coast Guard suggest divers discovered a significant crack in the hull of the Michipicoten now that it’s resting in Thunder Bay.

The well-seasoned ship was guided back to the port after making a call for help near Grand Portage in Minnesota on Saturday.

It was originally suggested they may have hit something, but these new reports shed light on the potential cause as an investigation into the incident is underway.

All the crew made it off the ship safely.
