New details have been released about the tentative agreement for more than 9,000 Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) workers.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) reached a tentative agreement with the federal government on Tuesday.
It avoided job action which some experts said had the potential to cause significant delays at border crossings.
“Our bargaining team worked around the clock to secure the best contract for our members, and this tentative agreement is a testament to their incredible hard work and dedication,” PSAC National President Sharon DeSousa said in a statement.
“This is a well-deserved victory for our members at CBSA who safeguard our nation’s borders and ensure the safety and security of all Canadians.”
The tentative deal includes a 15.7 per cent wage increase over four years, retroactive to June 2022.
There are also enhanced protections related to technological changes and better provisions for shift scheduling.
Members are expected to vote on the new agreement over the coming weeks.
