James Necanapenace
June 17, 1986 – June 16, 2024

James Necanapenace, a resident of Kenora, Ontario, member of Grassy Narrows First Nation passed away on Monday, June 16, 2024 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.

He was predeceased by his father Tony Assin, grandparents Alex Necanapenace, Matilda Necanapenace, Henry Necanapenace, Colin Assin and Jesse Assin. He is also predeceased by uncles Don Necanapenace, Steven, Ernie Assin, Abert Necanapenace, brother Michael Wilcox, aunties Bernice Kokopenace and his siblings Diane Necanapenace, Don Necanapenace, Murphy Kokopenace, Randy Kokopenace and Ruby Kokopenace.

James is survived by his mother Myra Delphiine Necanapenace, his siblings Shawn (Jasmine) and Brittany, his children Naveah, James Jr., Enzo, Samara and Jyles. His great great grandma Amelda, grandma’s Clara, Brenda, Susan and Rita, grandpa Sylvestor and family. His uncle Clarence Assin, aunties Linda Necanapenace, Sandra Necanapenace, Ginny Loon, Cindy, Brenda (Pook), Evelyn Kokopenace, Charlotte Loon and her family, Rhonda, Susan and Adeline and many other relative too numerous to mention.

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Acen, Ayana, Naya, Gerald, Honey, Whisper, Zaiden, Zayo, Thade and Truin, Jazlyn, Lexx, Justin, Janae, Walter, Jaylynn and Jacob, Kaakiigaa and Diondre, his cousins Roxanne, Edward, Valentina (Kevin), Shelley, Cliff, Tarra, Abert and Matilda, Denzil, Julieann, Anton, Americo, Nicole, Griffen, Clyde, Neil and Hudson, Leah and her children, Julie and her children, he will be greatly missed by many friends and family in Kenora, Ontario.

The family would like to thank the City of Kenora employee/employees who found and assisted James, OPP, the Doctor’s and Nurses at Lake of the Woods District Hospital, all of the resources in Kenora including the Fellowship Centre, the Emergency Shelter, Makwa Patrol, Taxi drivers and Grassy Narrows First Nation for all of your support through these troubled times.

A visitation for James will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre. A wake service will begin on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 3:00pm at Trappers Building, Grassy Narrows, Ontario. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 10:00am officiated by Elder Roy Napish at Trappers Building, Grassy Narrows, Ontario.
