Work to raise Essex Road to take place next year

Work to raise the roadbed of Essex Road won’t be taking place this year.

That’s according to the Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Greg Breen.

He says the project is being put over to next year.

“We need to do a drilling program assessment that is planned for this fall of this year on the Essex Road and construction will take place next season,” Breen told council during an update on projects currently taking place in the city.

Breen adds they don’t want to raise the roadbed until the assessment is done.

“We wouldn’t want to see any type of failure…having to bring more material in. We have seen in the past, so that’s what we’re try to prevent with this assessment.”

Mayor Andrew Poirier says the delay should be relayed to residents living north of the by-pass, because he thought the work was going to be done this year.

The city promised to raise the roadbed to prevent flooding that took place two years ago.
