Advance polling starts Friday

Canadians looking to vote early in the 45th federal general election can do so starting Friday, April 18, at advance polling stations across the country.

Advance voting runs for four consecutive days, with polls open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (local time) each day.

Unlike some provincial or municipal elections, voters in federal elections must vote at their assigned advance polling station. The location is printed on the back of each voter information card and can also be found by visiting elections.ca or calling 1-800-463-6868.

To vote, electors must bring ID that proves both their identity and address. A full list of acceptable ID is available on the Elections Canada website.

For those who can’t attend in person during advance voting, there are other options. Voters can cast a ballot early by visiting any Elections Canada office before 6 p.m. local time on Tuesday, April 22. Voting by mail is also available, but voters must apply online before the same deadline and ensure their completed ballot is returned on time.
