Benedict elected as new Ontario Regional Chief

After four rounds of voting, Abram Benedict has been elected as Ontario’s new regional chief.

A traditional election was held yesterday at the Chiefs of Ontario annual meeting on the Six Nations reserve.

Benedict was one of five people running for the position of Ontario Region chief.

Rudy Turtle from Grassy Narrows was also in the running.

Benedict won 50 votes from the 98 electors present to vote.

He is a former Grand Chief of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.
