Between the Lines with Arcade
It’s a long way from the frozen ponds of Kenora to the rugged beauty of Montana, but for Tallen Caron and Jaxen Savage, the journey has been as much about friendship as it has been about hockey.
The two forwards, both born in 2006 and raised in Kenora, have spent years playing against and with each other in Northwestern Ontario’s minor hockey circuit. From their early days on the Atom Thistles, through various age levels, and eventually as teammates on the U18 AAA Thistles, their paths have often crossed. Now, they find themselves reunited once again, this time as members of the Great Falls Americans in the NA3HL.
A Lifelong Passion
For Tallen Caron, hockey has been a constant since age four. Competitive by nature, he suited up for the AAA Thistles in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022. His junior career began as an Affiliate Player with the Junior A Islanders in 2023–24, and he continued with the team until it folded mid-season in January 2025. Caron then joined the Sioux Lookout Bombers, finishing out the 2024–25 campaign.
Caron made an immediate impact in his NA3HL debut on September 5, scoring a go-ahead goal in the first period against the Helena Bighorns. His offensive instincts and physical play have already made him a key contributor.
Savage’s Steady Rise
Jaxen Savage followed a similar trajectory, developing through Kenora’s minor hockey system and eventually playing for the Kenora Thistles U18 AAA. Known for his speed and playmaking ability, Savage made his mark in the second game of the season, scoring his first goal in a tight 3–2 loss to Bozeman and assisting on another, fittingly, set up by Caron.
“I’ve always looked up to junior hockey players,” Savage said. “So, when I aged out of midget, I was excited to take that next step. I’ve known about the NA3HL for a while and always wanted to discover the world a little more. I heard great things about Montana, it’s beautiful, and the hockey culture here is strong.”
Shared Roots, Shared Roof
In June, both players signed commitments to join the Great Falls Americans. Now, not only do they share ice time, but they also share a billet family, making the transition to life in Montana smoother and more familiar.

Early Season Impact
On Friday, September 12, Caron and Savage both started the game against the Badlands Sabers, marking a milestone moment in their shared hockey journey. Their chemistry was on full display:
- Tallen Caron: 2 goals, 1 assist
- Jaxen Savage: 1 goal, 1 assist
Their contributions helped spark a late-game rally and showcased the kind of synergy that only years of playing together can build.
Small Town, Big Dreams
Their story is one of perseverance, friendship, and the power of small-town hockey. From the Thistles to the Americans, Caron and Savage are proving that Kenora continues to produce players who can compete, and thrive, on a bigger stage.
And for young players back home dreaming of their own hockey journey, these two are living proof: the road from Kenora can lead anywhere.
