Bonnie Crombie says she will resign as Ontario Liberal leader following a weak show of support at the party’s annual general meeting.
Delegates voted this weekend on whether to hold a new leadership race, with 57 per cent voting against it.
While that was enough for Crombie to remain under party rules, some party members had said she should step down if she received less than two-thirds support.
In a statement released by the Ontario Liberals, Crombie said she believes the best path forward is an orderly transition to a leadership vote.
She plans to resign once a new leader is chosen.
