Building permits down from last year

The City of Kenora has issued more than $35 million in building permits this year.

The value is a bit less than last year, when $38 million was recorded to the end of September of 2023.

The city issued 73 permits by the end of the second quarter of 2024.

Director of Planning and Building Janis Pochailo says residential housing starts are responsible for much of the building activity.

Over 21 million dollars in permits have been issued for single family, triplex and duplex construction.

That’s followed by commercial development at $9.9 million and $2 million for institutional builds.

The figures go to the end of September.
