Building permits in Kenora increase in the second quarter

Building activity in Kenora has picked up in the second quarter of the year.

There were 19 building permits issued in June alone, worth more than $26 million.

A couple of large projects have help improve Kenora’s building statistics for the first half of the year.

That includes construction starts on the new vet clinic on 1st Avenue South and the WNHAC building on 1st Street South and arena upgrades at the Moncrief Construction Sports Center.

Janis Pochailo is the Director of Planning and Building and says their department issued more than half of the city’s building permits in Q2.

“Our building department has approved 51 building permits during that period, which represents private investment into our community of almost $35 million.”

So far this year, the city has issued 83 building permits with a value of almost $43 million.

Pochailo adds that building activity in the city is about $13 million higher than in the first two quarters of last year.
